Kaza Dam Construction Project
The Kaza Dam is a project worth over 2.4 billion birr. The construction will be constructed by the Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation as a contractor. The Corporation has signed a contract with the Ethiopian Irrigation Development Commission, which owns the dam, to complete the construction of the Kaza Dam in a period of four years at a cost of birr 2,487,842,142.86.
Construction of the Kaza Dam will take place 2 km from Dansha town on the Kaza River at the place of Mahat Dagnaw. The main dam will be 57 meters high and 2.5 kilometers long. In addition to the construction of the main dam, the project will include the construction of a water pump, intake tower, and dam and irrigation canals. Upon completion, the project will have the capacity to irrigate 10,000 hectares of land and benefit more than 20,000 farmers.
The objective of the various lots of the project is to provide water from the diversion weir to plots of irrigable land located at South Omo Zone of South Ethiopia Nations, Nationalities and Peoples State. The project, which is launched in March 2009 with an initial cost of 3.1 billion birr, is due to be completed in Dec. 2010 E.C.
Kuraz Secondary Canal 17 and 18 Construction Project
Upper Guder Dam and Appurtenant Structures Construction Project
This project, which is launched in Sep 2012 E.C in the West Shewa Zone of the Oromiya State at a cost of 935 million Birr, aims at constructing a dam and appurtenant structures, is expected to be completed in 2015 E.C.
The dam with a length of 283m and a height of 40m has a capacity of holding 57.7 million cubic meters of water at a time that can irrigate 4,972 hectares of land in the area.
The Tendaho Dam and Irrigation Project, which is located around Logiya town of the Afar State at a cost of over 4.1 ETB, was started in 1997 E.C and completed in 2009 E.C. The project included the construction of 72 km main canal as well as primary, secondary and tertiary canals. The Tendaho dam, which has a capacity of holding 1.8 billion cubic meters of water, can develop 60,000 hectares of land.
The Rib Dam and Irrigation Development Project, which is located in South Gondar Zone of Amhara State a cost of 3.1 billion ETB, was started in Oct. 2000 E.C and completed in Jan 2011 E.C.The dam has a height of 99.5m and length of 800m, can hold up to 234 million cubic meters of water and can cultivate more than 20,000 hectares of land.
The Gidabo Dam Construction Project, which is launched in adjacent woredas of the Oromia and South Ethiopia Nations Nationalities and Peoples’ States at a cost of 1.2 billion birrs, dam has a height of 22.5m and a length of 315m and it can hold 62.5 million cubic meters of water. The project was started in Jan 2002 E.C and completed in Dec 2011 E.C.
