Leaders of the Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation (ECWC) reviewed the performance of projects in the 2017EFY.
In their review, it was stated that the reform activities implemented by the Corporation and the proper management of projects contributed significantly to the outstanding performance recorded.
In addition, it was evaluated that the 2017 fiscal year’s performance will enable the Corporation to achieve the excellence journey goals set in the coming years, in line with the Corporation’s strategic plan.

Deputy Speaker Visits Parliamentary Housing Project, Praises Early Progress

Members of the House of People’s Representatives (HoPR), led by Deputy Speaker Honorable Mrs. Lomi Bedo, conducted an official visit to the ongoing construction site of the Housing Association of HoPR.
During the visit, the delegation expressed their appreciation to the Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation (ECC) for its commitment to completing the project ahead of schedule. They commended the Corporation’s round-the-clock efforts and praised its efficient project execution.
The officials highlighted that the housing initiative is a significant step toward enabling members of parliament to become homeowners. They also acknowledged the Corporation's collaborative approach with key local stakeholders, including farmers, woreda and sub-city administrations, the consulting firm, and the housing association committee.
CEO of ECC Engineer Yonas Ayalew briefed the delegation on the scope and progress of the project. He stated that construction is being carried out with a strong emphasis on quality, supported by a structured approach involving dedicated units for project management, finance, resource provision, quality control, monitoring, and support.
The housing project comprises ten 9-story buildings and carries a contract value of over 2.4 billion birr. It is slated for completion within a year an ambitious timeline that reflects the Corporation’s commitment to delivering results with speed and precision.
At the conclusion of the visit, the delegation led by Honorable Mrs. Lomi Bedo, planted saplings near the construction site as part of Ethiopia’s green legacy initiative. They also hosted a luncheon to show appreciation and encouragement to the employees involved in the project.

The Renovated Regional President’s Office Inaugurated

The newly renovated Sidama Regional State President’s Office (G+5 building) and main entrance gate, constructed by the Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation, have been officially inaugurated.
The renovation of the President’s Office and the construction of the main entrance gate were carried out by the Corporation to reflect the identity, values, architectural heritage, and culture of the Sidama people.
The G+5 President’s Office building features a beautifully designed exterior, a cabinet meeting hall, a private library, a VIP cafeteria, press and media rooms, an ICT center, and modern office spaces.
Additionally, the project includes the construction of the main entrance gate, landscaping of compound area, fencing for the President’s compound, pedestrian asphalt walkway, and three fountains.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Sidama Regional State Government President H.E Desta Lendamo, his cabinet members, leaders from the Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation, and community representatives.

Corporation Honored for Green Legacy Contributions

The Ministry of Agriculture, Environmental Protection Authority, and Green Wave Alliance organized a Green Legacy seedling planting campaign in Lume Woreda, East Shewa Zone, Oromia Region. Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation (ECWC) participated and contributed its share to the effort.
During the event, the corporation was recognized for its six consecutive years of support and contribution to the national Green Legacy seedling planting program.
Under the slogan "Renewing through Planting," the corporation is currently participating in the 7th round of the nationwide Green Legacy initiative.
MoFA, ECWC Undertakes National Construction Consultation Forum

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) and the Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation (ECWC) jointly carried out a national construction consultation forum on 03 May 2023 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia with a view to initiating integration of construction resources among the various African nations.
Opening the forum, Minister of Irrigation and Lowland Affairs Eng. Aisha Mohamed said such consultation forums have paramount importance toward strengthening multifaceted collaboration with African countries toward the development of the construction industry.
Eng. Aisha, who is also Chairperson of the Board of the Management Committee of the Corporation, said African countries shall work together in capacity building, technology transfer and experience sharing activities toward the satisfying Africa’s untapped market in the area of infrastructure development sector.
She said the Ethiopian government is ready more than ever to work in partnership with our African sisters and brothers toward transforming Africa as a whole.
The corporation, which is established to carry out quality construction works here and abroad, shall make use of the avail expertise of the forum in areas of engineering design, project development and management, execution and commissioning to expand its market share here and abroad.
Addressing the forum, Corporation Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Yonas Ayalew said the corporation, which merged three different construction firms, has been undertaking more than 100 construction projects in different parts of the nation and abroad mainly in the areas of water resource infrastructure, transport infrastructure and building and housing infrastructure construction sectors.
The corporation, which hosts close to 20,000 employees, is currently engaged in provision of project design and management services, in manufacturing of the various construction inputs as well as in construction-related investment activities.
According to the chief executive officer of the corporation, ECWC is desirous to scale up collaboration with African counterparts through forging joint ventures and other partnerships in a bid to boost the development of Africa’s infrastructure in the years to come.
The national construction consultation forum, which is organized under the theme ‘Together we can’, was attended by President of the Federation of African Engineers Association, Kazawadi Papias Dedeki, high-ranking Ethiopian government officials, and the various African diplomats including from Burundi, DR Congo, Chad, Uganda, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, and Tanzania.
Zimbabwean delegation visits ECWC

The Zimbabwean delegation visits the Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation construction inputs production center, the building progress of 5,000 prefab houses and the recently completed Construction Professionals Training Institute on the 1st of April 2023.
During the visit Engineer Yonas Ayalew, CEO of the corporation, said that the delegation will gain valuable experiences from the corporation; emphasizing on the activities which carryout market expansion in East and Central Africa and implementing internationalization reform. He added that, the corporation has great experience in the construction of roads, bridges, airports, dams, irrigation and water supply works, buildings and houses; it is my belief that we will build Africa together by developing existing experience.
In addition to the visit, a 10-minute promotional documentary showing the corporation's overall mission, vision and the corporation's project management system was shown to the delegates.
Mr. Millard Manungo, Deputy Secretary General for Policy Analysis, Coordination and Development Planning in the Office of the President and Cabinet of Zimbabwe, appreciated corporation’s prefabricated building technology and its efficiency, project management system effectiveness, fast exchange of information and the effort to manufacture construction materials locally. Lastly he assured to work together with the corporation in the near future.
