Djibouti company officials visit the corporation.

Officials of the Djibouti Ports Corridor Roads (DPCR) company, which manages the roads connecting Djibouti's port corridor with neighboring countries, paid a visit to the Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation on the 27th of April 2023.
Officials of DPCR, the owner of the Moloud-Dikhil-Gallamo road design and construction project visit Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation, Construction materials manufacturing center (gypsum board, aluminum, flexi-flue, Prefab, tiles, prefabricated building components production), construction of 5,000 prefabricated houses and construction professionals  development institute.
During the visit, the CEO of the corporation, Engineer Yonas Ayalew, said that the corporation is working to realize the internationalization reform by carrying out activities that increase its competitiveness in the construction sector. During the visit, Dr. Argaw Asha, a senior consultant at the Project Development and Management Center, gave a presentation to the executives of the "DPCR" company on the corporation's activities, results, project management and implementation, internationalization reform, focus areas, and about Ethio-Djibouti relations.

In addition, on the occasion of discussion held with Moloud-Dikhil-Gallamo road design and construction project, Engineer Ayenew Yehune, the geotechnical consultant, and Engineer Samuel, the highway engineer and transportation consultant gave a detailed explanation on the design work of the road to the participants. In particular, geotechnical, hydrology, architectural, structural design and related issues have been discussed in a broad manner.
Officials of the DPCR Company also stated that, the design report was well prepared in detail and in depth and said that they should discuss and work closely on the issues that need further consultation. According to Dr. Baysa Meka, manager of the design department at the Project Development and Management Center, the visit of the officials of the DPCR officials visit helps to identify the remaining works and approve the 10-kilometer design prepared by the center. 
He also expressed his belief that by carrying out the Moloud -Dikhil -Gallamo road design and construction project as planned; there will be a better opportunity to enter the East and Central African market.
It was understood from the explanation of Engineer Haylu Dinkneh, who is the manager of the design and construction project of Molud-Dickhill-Galamo road, that the project will cover 45 kilometers and will be carried out with a contract amount of 43 million US dollars.

H.E Chaltu makes remark on 'women in construction summit

H.E Mrs. Chaltu Sani, minister of urban and construction of Ethiopia made remarkable speech in the event of women in construction summit in Dubai that, the government of Ethiopia's due attention given for women that 36 percent of the cabinets are females.

The minister also stressed that, there is a need to create conducive policies and procedure to support and attract women in the construction sector. In addition, H.E Mrs. Chaltu Sani remarks that, creation of equal opportunity and realization conducive working environment would also help to promote women's participation in the construction industry.

H.E Mrs. Chaltu Sani visits ECWC’s booth at Dubai

Minister of the FDRE Minister of Urban and Infrastructure H.E Mrs. Chaltu Sani, State Minister H.E Mr. Wondimu Seta and State Minister H.E Mrs. Helen Debebe from the same Ministry visited the Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation (ECWC) stand at Dubai World Trade Center opened in December 5, 2022.

H.E Mrs. Chaltu Sani appreciated ECWC’s effort to promote Ethiopia’s investment potential in general and showcasing the Corporation’s effort to attract potential investors to work together to grasp the Eastern and Central African Markets. Furthermore, H.E admired ECWC’s participation in the Global Construction Leaders’ Summit that enables ECWC to gain and share experiences of the state of the art construction project management skills and technologies.

The BIG 5 international building and construction show will be closed in December 8, 2022.

ECWC signs an MoU with ACI

The Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation (ECWC) signs an MoU with an American Concrete Institute(ACI) to increase collaboration and cooperation in matters of improving concrete construction through the support of technical expertise in ways of publications, meetings, conferences, internet links, committee membership, and certification activities.

The agreement was signed between Engineer Yonas Ayalew, CEO of ECWC and Charles Nmai , president of ACI in the 7th of December 2022 at Dubai, World Trade Center.

President underscores infrastructure gap top most challenge for Africa’s economic growth, social progress

President Sahilework Zewdie said infrastructure gap in Africa has remained the top most challenge toward bringing about sustainable economic growth and social progress across the continent.

The president made the remark on 08th Nov. 2022 while opening the 6th African Engineering Conference and 8th Edition of African Engineering Week here in Addis Ababa at Science and Technology museum.

Africa, as continent of huge infrastructure deficit, has a number of priority areas to be addressed toward ensuring sustainable development, but the issue of expanding the necessary infrastructure remained the top most priority, the president underscored.

Her Excellency Sahlework Zewdie said experts in all fields shall have conversations of such a kind and exchange experiences in order to solve problems and thereby ensure the kind of Africa we want. 

Addressing the conference President of Ethiopian  Association of Civil Engineers, Eng. Yonas Ayalew said since every development endeavor is linked with availability of basic structure needs of the society, researchers, contribution to excel existing knowledge and creating news ways of doing things has a paramount importance.

He said Africa’s shortcoming in the area of infrastructure development shall be resolved through full-fledged and coordinated and coordinated efforts of all concerned bodies engaged in the sector.       

The conference, which is organized by the Ethiopian Association of Civil Engineers(EACE) in collaboration with Federation of African Engineering Organization (FAEO) and World Federation of Engineering Organization (WFEO) under the theme “Accelerating Sustainable Infrastructure Development in Africa Together”, is expected to dwell on various issues related to engineering and construction endeavors in the coming three days.

GERD showcases Ethiopia’s commitment toward regional integration

Minister of Defense, Dr. Abrham Belay said the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) indicates that Ethiopia is keen to forge strong economic cooperation among the Nile riparian countries.

While receiving the participants of the 6th African Engineers Conference at the headquarters of the National Defense Forces on 08 Nov. 2022, Dr. Abrham said GERD would enable the nation build economic cooperation among the neighboring countries as it would be the cheapest, dependable and environmentally-friendly electric power source.

The minister, who is also a renowned engineer by profession, reiterated to participants the international stakeholders shall come to Ethiopia and invest in alternative power sources as the nation is endowed with immense potential for water, wind, solar and geothermal energy sources.

Asked about the shortcomings of hydropower plants, the minister said the only limitation of such projects is that it requires huge financial resource for installation of equipment as well as for displacing and rehabilitation of communities living within the project site.

The GERD project is a testimonial for displaying the wonders of the various engineering fields of study, thereby underscoring the indispensible role of such professionals toward bringing about development and social progress.

The GERD, which has already began generating over 500 mw power to date, is capable of producing some 6,000 mw power up on going fully operational.

The guests appreciated the head office of the Ethiopian Defense forces, which is locally called the Headquarters of the East African countries and named by vising American officials as “a better facility than the Pentagon itself”.
