Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation (ECC) Receives High Praise for Progress and Innovation

During a recent tour of the Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation (ECC) Kality compound, led by Dr. Fitsum Assefa, Minister of Planning and Development of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, significant strides and accomplishments were underscored.

Dr. Fitsum commended the corporation for its adeptness in navigating the shifting global economic landscape, particularly in establishing a versatile institution capable of effectively addressing these changes.

She applauded ECC’s partnerships with private sector entities, emphasizing its pivotal role in promoting local construction materials over imports and nurturing private sector growth.

 Dr. Fitsum also voiced optimism regarding ECC’s foray into construction markets across diverse African countries, highlighting its potential impact on regional development.

Engineer Yonas Ayalew, ECC Chief Executive Officer, delineated the transformative initiatives undertaken by the corporation over the past 5 years, resulting in marked improvements and successes.

These initiatives encompassed advancements in project management, financial management, human resource and equipment management, timely project completion, establishment of a conducive work environment, industrialization, digitalization, as well as internationalization and investment reforms.

Corporation’s athlete wins two medals within a week

Sport Club of the Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation (ECC) disclosed that one of its athletes won gold and silver medals in two separate rally held in China.

The club, in its statement sent to Communication Affairs Department of the Corporation on 22 April 2014, revealed that Athlete Zewditu Ashenafi received the medals and financial rewards after taking part in 21-km and 10-km rallies competitions and stood 1st and 2nd respectively.

The athlete happed to hoist the flag of the corporation at international arena after registering remarkable achievements during the two rallies that occurred on 14 April 2014 and 21 April 2024.

Athletic club of the corporation wins the competition

Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation athletics club athlete Tsehaynesh Kefale and athlete Rahel G/Mesikel, won the third and fifth place in “Ethiopia Tamirt 10-kilometer road run” competition. 

In the competition held on April 21th, 2024, athlete Tsehaynesh Kefale was awarded 100 thousand birr for her better performance and athlete Rahel G/Mesikel was awarded 25 thousand birr.

In the competition, 325 male and 230 female athletes participated from 27 athletic clubs which started and finished at Mesqel Square.

Execution of Semera University infrastructure construction project reaches 95 percent

The execution of the Semera University infrastructure design and build project, which is underway at a revised cost of over 515.4 million Birr, has reached 95 percent since the end of the first nine months of the current Ethiopian fiscal year.

The Semera University Infrastructure Design and Build project is being undertaken by Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation (ECC) while the Ethiopian Construction Design and Supervision Works Corporation remains the consultant of the project so far.

The project, which was launched in May 2019, includes the construction of water reservoirs, extension of water pipelines, building of drainage canals, construction of asphalt alleys, installation of lamp posts and other related infrastructures.

Corporation due to complete construction of 54 residential units for low-income persons

The Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation (ECC) is due to complete the construction of 54 residential units launched in Yeka Sub-city of Addis Ababa City administration.
Building Construction Project Manager with the Corporation, Eng. Dawit Atlaw said on 18 April 2024 that the project that includes construction of one (G + 4) building block, one workshop and 14 stalls, is well underway to finalize it just ahead of schedule.
Dawit said the residential units meant for low-income city dwellers living in Woerda 9 of the sub-city included 24 studios, 10 one-bedroom and 20 two-bedroom residential units.
The owner of the project, Ministry of Labor and Skills, launched the project in Jan. 2024 at a cost of 328.4 million Birr and expects its completion by July 2024, according to the manager.
