Project’s Performance Reaches 90 Percent

Addis Ababa City Entrance and Exit Agricultural Products Market Center, which is being built at Akakii Kaliti Sub-city, Woreda 15, around Haile Garment area with a revised contract price of more than 1.5 billion Birr (excluding VAT) has reached 90 percent, project’s manager stated.
The project’s Lot 1 Manager, Engineer Alemayehu Kassa, said that except finishing and electro-mechanical works, other works have been completed and the project's works average performance has reached 90 percent.
Engineer Alemayehu stated that Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation (ECWC) had entered into contract with the client of the project, Addis Ababa City Administration Construction Bureau, to complete this project which started on December 20, 2020, until December 30, 2023.
However, due to problems related to right of way and payment, the project could not be completed within the set time limit, so the project manager stated that the project is going to be completed within one month additional time (until January 30, 2024).
The project, which covered an area of 93.9 thousand square meters, includes the construction works of fruit and vegetable blocks, grain blocks, administrative building, supermarket, public toilets, road, parking, fence, green area, vegetable wash, electricity, sanitary, septic tank, solid waste and soak away pit, generator and transformer block and water reservoir.

The Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation (ECWC) hand over Christmas gift for elderly and poor people living in Yeka Subcity, Woreda 9 at Addis Ababa.
Those people were regular consumers of lunch meal from ‘Tesfa Birhan feeding Center’ of the corporation located within its head quarter compound.
Beneficiaries from the support get 5,000 ETB individually at the eve of Ethiopian Christmas from the hands of the concerned officials of the Addis Ababa city administration and corporation.

Would-be project managers begin practical training

Would-be project managers of the Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation have begun practical training (on job training) as of Dec. 2023 after month-long theoretical instructions.
Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation, Eng. Yonas Ayalew said the on job training that followed the theoretical instruction would enable the trainees acquire practical knowledge, skills and experience in the various projects of the corporation.
The practical training will help the would-be project managers encounter contemporary problems that may occur while executing construction projects, he said; the trainees are expected to apply their knowledge and skills during the upcoming months.
The trainees have already gained thorough understanding about those construction projects they visited at the beginning of the theoretical training, he said, they were also able to forwarded excellent recommendations as to how to scale up the execution of those projects being undertaking in different sites of the Addis Ababa city.
Throughout the training, the trainees will be regarded as regular employees of the corporation so long as they displayed the expected professional competency, responsibility, transparency and accountability.
Speaking at the occasion, Executive Officer of the Construction Professionals Development Institute (CPDI) of the Corporation, Dr. Argaw Asha said the trainees will be exposed to practical trainings on 22 road construction, building and housing construction projects of the corporation.
Dr. Argaw said the on job training will mainly focuses on identifying the contemporary problems of executing construction projects and on fining feasible solutions for those obstacles observed in the stated projects.
